News> Game 5 -Topballerz vs Thunder Recap

December 10, 2011

After suffering back-to-back losses to Staten Island and the New Jersey Express, the Topballerz looked to bounce back against a very talented NYC Thunder team.  Returning to Albertus Magnus College in front of their home crowd proved to be the perfect recipe for the Topballerz as they erupted to score 155 points and turned an early first quarter deficit into a 47-point victory.

Led by Kelvin Davis’s 21 points and a very balanced attack from the team whereas 8 of the 12 players scored in double figures, the Topballerz illustrated exactly why they are the team to beat in the Northeast Division and a potential contender for the National Championship.  Not only did the Topballerz shoot 69% from the field, they shot an unheard of 57% from the three point line.

“We played together tonight.  Our guards did a great job of penetrating and kicking out to the wings for easy jumpers which allowed us open up the game” exclaimed an excited Coach Jim Cornish.  Additionally, the Topballerz nearly doubled the Thunder in the rebound department 41-21.  “Anytime you are hitting the open jumper while also controlling the glass, any team is going to have a hard time keeping up with us.  Our team is extremely talented and as long as we implement the simple principles of TEAM defense, rebound and run, we are going to be victorious” noted Assistant Coach Maurice Williamson.

Following the victory, it was evident that a little bit of the “swagger” that was missing after their two losses had returned to the Topballerz’ players.   As they signed autographs and took pictures with their fans, the players laughed and smiled and one could see that the proverbial “monkey” had been lifted from their backs.  They were/are back on track and ready to proceed chasing that National Title.

At 3-2 and tied for first in their division, the Topballerz look to extend their win streak this upcoming weekend (Saturday the 17th) against the Thunder for a rematch which promises to be a another high-scoring affair.  Come out and support your very own Topballerz as they continue their quest for a National Championship.

As always, home games are played at 7:30 at Albertus Magnus College.  For additional information or to purchase your tickets in advance, please visit www.topballerz.net .
